   Scifiartist.com
has been
  online since March 2000.

  After many cosmetic changes,
  I've kept the original layout
  pretty much the same.
  The idea has always been
to keep it easy to navigate
  and looking good, while not
  going overboard with flash
  animation.

  If you have any technical
  problems with Scifiartist.com
  then please let me know.
  Thank you for visiting!
The story so far...
I live in East Yorkshire in the UK and I am 32.
I have been drawing and painting for about as
long as I can remember. As a kid I would draw
pictures from the movies and TV shows I'd seen.
I always had a plentiful supply of paper and
paints which I would "borrow" from my father,
who was a talented painter himself.

After leaving school, my art portfolio was
deemed not good enough to gain entrance
into any further education courses at University.
So I took it upon myself to continue painting
the things I wanted to paint, with the goal
of being published.

Getting published I thought...Great!...now
how do I go about doing that? The truth was
I really didn't know.

The journey had many creative highs and lows.
I have worked on many unpaid projects.
I've written, illustrated and self published a
comic book. Illustrated a full colour oil painted
Graphic Novel. I've sent countless submissions
to editors often receiving little or no response. I even went up on stage in front of a crowd at
the 2004 comics festival in Bristol to take part
in a Live Portfolio Session.
This involved using a projector to show my
artwork to the masses and be criticised by
industry Professionals.(Pop Idol for artists)
It's certainly been an education over the
years.

Eventually persistence has paid off.
I now have regular Freelance work in addition
to my internet based full time job.
My Artwork has appeared in RPG books, Trading
Card Games, Board games, magazines and a
Graphic Novel.

What does the future hold? Who knows, hopefully
an expanding client base, and more exciting
projects to work on. I want to continue to learn
and improve my skills, and absorb all that I can
from the many great talents out there, that are
on a similar path to mine.

I'll gladly listen to any offers of work either
freelance or studio based.
I'll relocate when the right offer comes along.

Technique
Professional work starts with
a brief art description.

On reading the description
images will immediately
start going around in my
head and I'll start to draw.

I start in my sketchpad with
rough thumbnail sketches,
concerning myself more with
composition than anything
else. Click on image below.

When I have something I'm
sort of happy with I'll refine
the idea in a new drawing at
the correct size required.

Sketch

Once a sketch has been
approved by the art editor
it's time to add the colour.
I can paint in watercolour,
acrylics, oils and digitally
on the computer.

My choice for professional
illustration is the PC. When
there's a deadline I can't be
waiting for the paint to dry.

Try it for yourself, it's fun!!
